What does health have to do with reading?

Building healthy communities plays a key role in improving childhood literacy. When children have access to nutritious food, safe environments, and active lifestyles, they are better able to focus, learn, and grow. Having access to affordable and healthy foods ensures that kids have the energy and brainpower to develop strong reading skills. Community gardens, like the Garden of Eat'N, teach responsibility, curiosity, and an early love for learning.

Reliable and safe transportation helps children attend school consistently, giving them more opportunities to build strong reading skills. Proper car seat use and safe travel practices ensure kids arrive ready to learn, without the setbacks of preventable injuries or missed school days.
Physical activity strengthens a child’s ability to focus, reducing restlessness and helping with comprehension. Keeping kids away from nicotine and drugs protects their developing brains and ensures they stay engaged in school and reading activities.

By fostering safe, healthy environments for children, C5 is not just supporting their well-being. We are giving them the foundation for a brighter future filled with learning and success!
