Numeral Comprehension: When entering kindergarten, children need to be able to recognize numerals and match quantities with numerals. An example would be to count five paperclips and match it with the numeral 5 or count four pencils and match it to the numeral 4. Children should be able to match up to ten items and recognize numerals 0-10. As a bonus- see if your child can add two groups of items like, how many paper clips and pencils do we have?
Balancing on one foot: Begin with five seconds and as it gets easier, add five more seconds until your child can balance on each foot for 15 seconds. Try to maintain balance with eyes closed for two or three seconds.
Scissor Practice: Using child-appropriate scissors, let your child cut up scraps of wrapping paper, junk mail, and old magazines. Keep using a squishy ball or sponge to strengthen those muscles!
